- 2 - BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}/B.1/G.13.1.38. (b). Lighten moving parts if at all possible. (c). Consider whether it is permissible to increase stength of valve spring beyond the one assumed, of seat load 50 lbs. and load at full (.35") lift of 106 lbs. (d). Any increase of duration of opening will be helpful. (e). To minimise turning friction it would be better, if practicable, to have stem of tappet of less diameter than .75". (f). It is possible that a slight gain would ensue from further increasing the rocker ratio, but care would be necessary not to have too high a load in push rod, with consequent shortening. G.S. Bower.
