We therefore consider from the available evidence that the faulty operation of the coil was due to impurities either in the paraffin wax used for impregnation or in the insulating paper causing excessive H.T leakage when the coil was hot and the wax liquid.
We are rather dubious as to whether our present coil production test indicates sufficiently well enough the sparking capabilities of coils when in a hot condition as met with on a chassis and we suggest for your consideration the following modification to our production test specification:-
Item (5) Delete existing paragraph and substitute " The coil shall be run normally but at 18 volts for 30 mins and then immediately switched over to 8 volts when no missing shall occur on the 6.5 mm spark gaps."
