TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} SECRET. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M24.10.24. Copy to CJ. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C.111. FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. X9940 Referring to the question of the friction in the top of the balancer arm suspension links, we send herewith N.scheme 1860., on which is shewn:- (1) The proposed method of obtaining friction by means of a heavy Thackeray washer. This does not occupy any more width than the existing links, and therefore we think should go into the space available. Modifications to the bridge and links are required. Mr. Royce would like you to try links .212 thick. (2) We have indicated on this drawing the effect of varying the proportions of the balancer arms in accordance with the brake leverages, and also the effect of one brake wearing more than the other. Mr. Royce we understand is prepared to go on as now, i.e. with equal arms to balancer, but thinks unequal wear should be corrected by adjustment as far as possible.
