X40 - 7a. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c.R. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} re Peregrine Engine. In confirmation of our conversation of this morning, please note it is agreed that as soon as you get the improved camshaft fitted to a Peregrine engine, you will carry out further tests with regard to ignition advance prolonging the curves down to the lowest speeds required, and giving the width of the band between maximum and minimum advance, during which there is no drop in power over the speed range. The best ignition advance setting for a satisfactory low speed tickover on the slow running stop should also be determined, so that we can then construct a curve giving the best average setting for the governor over the whole speed range, within the limits of the permissible band of variation, as shown in sketch.
