To R & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. to CJ. & PN.{Mr Northey} c. Ey. & EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} & Ds. ORIGINAL BATTERIES FOR GOSHAWK. We now send sheet O of continuous high rate battery discharge tests. All the curves on this sheet refer to proposed batteries for Goshawk, viz.:- Nos.70/77/79/80 - Batteries of C.A.V.Willard 12XR2 type. Nos.89/93 - Exide 6KNS type. Nos.94 - De Martis R.1234. There are no P & R battery curves on this sheet, the final P & R battery being not yet available. C.A.V.Willard Batteries. Type 12 XR2. Battery No.70 went through our routine tests, and the curve given was taken before being put on a car. After this it has done 7250 miles on chassis 3 G.II. Since then it was sent to France for 7-Gos.II after a quick test had been taken to see that it was in reasonable condition. The curve for Battery No.77 was taken after the battery had been run for a considerable distance on 3 G.II. The two curves for Battery No.79 were taken after it had been through the 10,000 mile test on 5-G.II. Battery No.80 was put through our routine bench tests and the high rate discharge curve given was that taken during these tests. This battery appears to have a particu-larly low resistance for its capacity. It appears from the above results that these batteries can vary considerably, and also there is a suggestion that after having been in use for some time the resistance increases. Contd. | ||
