Thank you for the copies of Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Br.2/13.3.39 and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}13.3.39. We have dealt with the rear axle as instructed in the latter. Regarding the query re roll rod rubbers, these failed on 8.B.V. after 15,000 miles but not on any other B.V. to my knowledge. The present ones have not failed but are in poor condition due to the excessive angularity which has not been corrected on this chassis. The new rod, common to B.V, B.50 and W.80 should be much better in this respect.

We have noticed a light rattle in the gearbox which occurs only with small throttle opening in all except direct gear. It is chiefly noticeable around 20 m.p.h. in second gear, but occurs over a wide range of the lower speeds in all the indirects. It is not there on the over-run or on full throttle or running the gearbox up with the car stationary. We shall take careful note of whether it becomes any worse, and if so, inspect the needle rollers in the lay-shaft, but at present we cannot say what it is. It is a noise we have never heard in a gearbox that we can remember.

Behnan is coming down on Friday to continue the new Garage deal, when the architect in Paris has passed out the plans as satisfactory.
