SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE.
15th January 1936.

Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

For attention of Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} West.

Dear Sirs,

Following our conversation last week on the subject of the damping of the A.T. Speedometer needle, the writer has pursued this matter with Mr. Buckland and he has prepared a sample instrument arranged with a stronger hair spring and sufficient damping to take care of your ideas. This is being sent you under separate cover and we shall be glad if you will kindly let us know whether it conforms with your wishes.

In concluding we can assure you that there is no difficulty at all in taking care of an instrument with greater damping, but there are certain disadvantages, especially with the slow flex-speed type of instrument; the damping fitted at higher speeds is satisfactory but at a low m.p.h. the needle becomes too responsive.

Perhaps when you have tested this instrument you will give us an opportunity of discussing the matter.

Yours faithfully,
For S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD.
