Replying to your Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}4/KW.29.1.35., we consider the Ekco set which we have, to be the most silent, as regards "mush" tuned or untuned, of any sets which we have tested. One of the reasons for this is the elimination of a vibrator in this set. Vibrators are almost impossible to screen effectively and on weak stations cause annoyance. The Phillips set also has insufficient control, in our opinion on the tone of the speaker. It is also very bulky and heavy. The filter circuit incorporated does work but it has to be supplemented by very careful screening of floorboards to prevent some of the ignition interference being manifest. We have not seen the latest Philco set and should like to if there are any interesting points about it. Our opinion is that the Ecko set should be recommended where possible on the grounds that in addition to its good quality reception, it is British. The sets we have at Derby are all allocated for new experimental cars and a final report on their merits will be made when these cars are running. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
