RE CROSS STEERING TUBES.

The small modification we have already made to the joint appears to perform its duty well and as we anticipated.
There should be no difficulty in introducing this comparatively simple improvement at once, if it proves well on the joggling test. I think you should continue with the test as you have arranged it, that is, joggling with a given slack.

In the meantime, for future work, we are trying to still further improve the joint and the ball.

I think it is highly desirable that we press forward the stud with the separate sphere, and also the forked steering arm. Both of these permit of a joint which I think would prove safer. Further designs for these will be sent by Mr. Olley very shortly.

There is no doubt that the cause of the trouble is the wearing away of the pad (by grit &c), which should have prevented the tube collapsing. I regret this part was not arranged as we now propose to make it.
