I have told Mr Goodyear that we have a perfectly open mind on the subject, and any form of detachable wheel which is proved to be the best in service, even if it is universally used on cheap cars, must naturally claim attention. With the bolted type of detachable wheel which we are considering, the provision of a suitable brace for tightening the nuts makes it a very easy matter for a non skilled person to handle, also the operation of re-tightening after the wheel has run a short distance, which all forms of detachable hubs strictly require, is also very easily performed. We have obtained for the Experimental Department to run a set of wire wheels with the bolted large diameter type of hub, and we have now made arrangements to get some semi-spoked pressed steel artillery wheels made up on similar hubs. Dunlops will require to make some rough dies for these and will expect us to pay the cost price. They themselves stand to lose a certain amount in connection with any change in our wheel policy in scrapping a certain number of tools and gauges if the present type becomes obsolescence. We are also arranging with Messrs. Dunlop's to obtain for us if possible a set of Kelsey Hayes wheels of similar pattern to the Cadillac, as we feel this investigation should be carried as far as possible to obtain the best form of wheel and tyre for our purpose.
