LUCAS TYPE ERS. MAGNETOS.

We have now had in all five type ERS magnetos, numbered 50, 51, 53 and 54B, the last two of which were received together early last month.

We have had one or two running on experimental chassis and in particular one on the 10,000 mile test chassis 12-EX in France. Except for that one, the general results of the running have been favourable. We have also had a report from Mr. Minchin to the effect that he has one such magneto on his own Phantom and he appears to be very pleased with this.

Except in one or two minor respects, these magnetos, particularly the last two, satisfy the requirements of our General Specification for Magnetos for EAC. chassis.

Regarding particularly the magneto which ran on the 10,000 mile car in France, this did not come through that test satisfactorily and we think it would be expedient to write to the makers giving them the appended information, and enquire of them as to whether they have any proposals to make regarding these magnetos previous to our conducting further experiments. We should be prepared if necessary to return for modification any magnetos which we already have.

From the general results obtained we think that this type of magneto still offers good prospect of ultimate satisfaction. The big advantage is the fact that we get rid of the pulsation of the controls.
