Detonation tests comparing Ethyl and Dominion fuels to assess the safety of an increased compression ratio.

72- (2) Detonation tests. Using Ethyl there was no audible detonation either at T.D.C. or 5° Early. Using Dominion there was noticeable detonation at T.D.C. from 20 - 40 M.P.H. It was necessary to retard 5° late to eliminate all noticeable detonation using Dominion. The timed performance shows only a slight loss when retarded 5° late and this would not be easy to detect without taking stop watch figures. There was no measurable difference between T.D.C. and 5° early. These results indicate that we can with safety try the increased compression ratio as proposed.
