Oy2-W-75125 July 31, 1923. Mr. Claude Johnson, Rolls-Royce, Limited, London, England. (Copy for attention of Mr. Royce Mr. Platford Mr. Hives) Dear Sir: Re Thermometer Tubes We submit herewith for Mr. Royce's attention print A-2852 showing proposed form of shield for thermometer tube to replace the present split shield. The present shield gives trouble through calling for such a sharp bend in the tube, which has led to breakage of the tube in fitting in several cases. A pipe clip is fixed to the rear side of the dashboard just above the shield which prevents movement of the pipe in the shield. The shield A-2852 has run 7000 miles without rattling or showing any mark on the tube. The hole in the dashboard is chamfered to prevent the sharp edge bearing against the tube. Oy.
