X.4617 COPY OF LETTER FROM:- THE CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO.LIMITED. CLIFTON JUNCTION, NR. MANCHESTER. Our Reference WTC/AP. 8th February. 1924. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited., D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, Battery for 40/50 H.P. Chassis. We duly received your letter, Reference Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 6/NJ1224., of the 1st instant, pointing out the error in our letter of the 25th ulto., when we regret the incorrect specification number was quoted. We are sorry that it has been necessary to decide on bolted connections throughout, as we consider burned-up ones much preferable. As, however, you have decided to retain bolted end connectors, we feel it best, from service considerations, to have all the cells similar (i.e. all with screwed terminal stems) and are accordingly proceeding with the design on this basis. We presume that one of the reasons leading to the decision to retain the screwed end terminal connections, was the necessity of being able to utilise the cable ends, etc., on present models without modification. If, at a future date, the question of lead taper terminals, as supplied on the 20 H.P. models is again considered for the 40/50 H.P. model, we would suggest that this necessity might be met by the use of an adaptor clamped on our end terminal taper pillar suitable for accepting your present cable ends.
