The last quarterly report is rather misleading with the above complaints. The depots have been instructed to fit the strengthened bracket to existing cars to prevent the failure of the battery box support hence the increased number reported. There has been no recurrent failure reported after the fitting of the strengthened bracket. Production cars have now the reinforced brackets. Item (23) Central Lubrication Failures. The central lubrication is generally giving little trouble. On the present production cars there is a definite inspection of the system which should bring the failures to a minimum. The failures reported are generally on the front axle with the Enots one shot system due to the scoring of the stand pipe forming the bijur. This has been cured on present production by the fitting of a bronze bush. Item (24) Carburetter Troubles. Flooding. Air Valve Pin coming out & Throttle sticking. These complaints are dealt with by depot sheets as previously reported. The Expl. Dept have received a scheme for trying a stainless steel valve seat to prevent flooding. Item (25) Valve Springs breaking. Valve sticking. We have not received a recurrent complaint after the fitting of the new semi-closed circular ground springs. Depot sheets issued dealing with valves sticking. Item (26) Radiator Shutters Sticking & Filler Cap. The sticking of the radiator shutters has been thoroughly dealt with by W.W. A spherical seating is now fitted to the bottom bearing. On future production the non-spillable radiator cap is to be incorporated. On present cars a rubber washer is fitted. Item (27) Speedometers. We are now receiving improved speedometers which should not fail. The modification is to the trip gear a ratchet is fitted which prevents the climbing of the gear when reversing. We have received a letter from the A.T. speedometer makers stating that further modifications will be made in due course. Item (28) Rear Axle Oil Leaks.
