35-EX. PHANTOM III.

Rear Suspension.

The arm between the O.S.R. spring clip and the damper and roll-rod links has now broken right off at the points where it was weakened by drilling it for the pins. It seems to be beyond repair.

We are therefore, continuing to run mileage on suitable roads with the N.S.R. damper alone in action, until the car goes to Paris.

Under these circumstances, I have connected up the front roll-rod again to steady the car in the absence of the rear roll-rod which is now of necessity also out of action. The rubbers in the front roll-rod links had covered 7,500 miles without being disturbed. They are in poor condition.

We have tried washering up for wear in the rear shackles of the back springs, but a satisfactory job cannot be made as the pins and bushes are also badly worn.

The following new parts will be required in Paris to be fitted at the same time as the axle parts.

Near & Offside rear spring clips, complete with arms for damper & Roll-rod link connections.

Near & Offside rear spring shackles for back springs complete with all pins, bushes, and washers.

Are we to use the rubber or the metal front anchorages for the back springs ?

We do not know what you intend to do about the damper and roll-rod links. We have been running with steel discs between the ball pins and the rubbers, which has worked satisfactorily as a temporary job.

If there is to be any delay in the supply of the parts referred to, which is likely to hold the car up in Paris, please let GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} and myself know at once, so that the job can be organised accordingly with relation to the running of the Bentleys.
