1109 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} NW.{N. Walker - Patents} D/BP9/MW.16.1.39. Re: Parsons Non-Skid Chains. We recently supplied the owner of Bentley B.64.HK{Col. T. Harker - Sales} (R.Young) fitted with a Park Ward Saloon, with a set of Parsons chains for front and rear wheels. The owner wrote to say that he could not use the chains on the front wheels as they struck the wings and were causing damage. Since the Parsons Chains were supplied we have been informed that chains are not necessary on the front. Our previous recommendation was to the effect that they should not be fitted on the rear only, vide the Instruction book. We have agreed in this case to take the front chains back from this owner, and have informed him that it will be quite sufficient for him to use these on the rear only. Mr.Young has now raised this point again with our travelling inspector (MK), who wishes to be informed of our latest recommendations. Will Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} please let us have his advice on this matter so that we may know how to deal with any further orders we receive for Parsons Chains. If rear chains only are necessary we will arrange to supply accordingly and inform customers that contrary to the recommendation in the Instruction Book, front chains are not now advised.
