| To. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GR. {George Ratcliffe} 1379 Levallois. DAILY REPORT. Paulin Bentley II. - B-27-LE. Spare test unit dismantled and bearings etc., inspected for clearances. Existing cylinder block too large i.e. .015" O {Mr Oldham} /S. New cylinder block taken from Stores. Very little clearance with raised crown pistons; to be checked when new pistons arrive from Derby. Crankshaft bearing clearances increased to .003" by lifting with liners and easing sides. (Crankshaft .020" undersize) Gearbox removed from chassis, to be changed for overdrive one from Derby. 1.7/8" carburetters and manifold sprayed black, not stove enamelled. Exhaust front expansion box cut open and loose baffle removed. Box re-welded without baffle. All brake drums dismantled and shoes re-lined with BZ. Servo also fitted with new standard linings. The spare 4.I/4 L. replacement engine here was marked EXP. and will be renumbered L 9 B C to correspond with the original unit quoted on the dashboard number plate. List of parts received O.K. 2 new P.426 Aerolite pistons, rings and pins complete. Overdrive gearbox complete with servo. Dampers and pistons for I.7/8 S.U. carburetters direct from S.U.
