Intermediate Positions.

These can be used to advantage, although they are not as progressive as would be desired. This is thought to be caused from actual damping characteristics. Harshness is noticeable immediately the over-riding control is used at all.

General.

One of the chief uses of the over-riding control is to adjust the dampers for differences in load in the back of the car. From this point of view it would therefore appear only necessary to increase the loads on the rear dampers. 22-EX owing to the shorter lever on the front dampers has 25% more load on the front dampers than the rear. On the road in the maximum position the front of the car appears to be unnecessarily hard. At the Motor Show it was noticed that several cars had tele-control dampers only for the rear.

There is still a feeling that recession is taking place back along the pipes making it difficult to prevent pitching without causing harshness to the ride. However it is now thought that this trouble is caused from characteristics of the dampers.
