We have carried out some preliminary tests on E's proposed new cylinder head. We utilised the method we have developed by which it is possible to obtain a fairly accurate estimate of the power output potentialities of a design by means of a wooden model. The results, as tabulated in the attached report, indicate that the new design is exceedingly promising. We anticipate that this type of head will enable us to get the existing power output from our engine units with an appreciably lower compression ratio; in other words smoother cars with the same performance, or better performance for the existing smoothness. For this reason we are particularly anxious to complete the experiments on this design as soon as possible. At the moment the design has not been carried far enough to enable us to make a head that can be run on an engine. We believe the possibilities of this head are such that it is worthy of consideration for aero engine work. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
