Graphs 5 & 6 shew that the variations remain the same when different pads and shackles are compounded.
We consider that the falling off in rating due to the inward inclination of the shackle can be completely accounted for by the horizontal compression set up in the spring. Using the actual working angles of the shackles that we have obtained, our calculations agree very closely with the experimental results.
Graph 13 shews the characteristic behaviour of the Woodhead spring with reversed top leaves when subjected to this test. The internal friction of this type of spring is of course very great. We are arranging the rig to carry out a number of torsion tests with the "Woodhead" reversed leaf and "Standard" type of spring. If, therefore, you have any particular figures that you would like as regards torsion or flexion of leaf springs we are at the moment in a position to obtain them.
