FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) C. to - BD{Mr Berend}, BY, HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} R9/M5.3.28. REC'D, & DESPATCHED FROM WW. 8.3.28. 1" OFFSET HYPOID GEAR. X2066 X3807 Regarding the 1" offset hypoid gear, the pinion shewn on N. sch. 2552. should be used until proved wrong - i.e. with 45 X 110 New Departure bearing, no sheet metal casing. I would not use Schatz for fear failure and delay. I do not object to the felt, but am pleased we are not trusting to it for oil retaining. Close. Regarding oil retaining I fear N. sch. 2552. is not quite right (see sketch.) [Sketch annotations] Ball bearing. Close to retain oil in bearing. Far apart & drained not to form pump.
