Dear Sirs,

For the attention of W.A. Robotham Esq.

We acknowledge receipt of telegrams and interchange of telephone communications of to-day, and would confirm that it is with the very greatest possible regret that we have had to inform you of the unsuitability for use of the castings in L22 alloy, made in anticipation of delivery of the finished pistons to you by the end of this week.

Apparently, something has gone adrift with die temperatures, and the castings are definitely too spongy to be safe. Further castings are now in heat treatment, and subject to these being successful, we expect to despatch the pistons to you Tuesday of next week.

We are fitting up and despatching to you immediately, the set of pistons in RR.53, which we have been holding for Alumilite treatment, and although you will notice that two of these pistons are not free from casting defects, they are not of such a nature as would prohibit the use of the pistons. These pistons have the "I" dimension 3.247" and have the taper of .001" to the open end.
