Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bowring. [Handwritten Initials: BRy, PuG] D.W.S. Jacks with Hand Pumps. Phantom III. As you will be aware it has been decided to fit D.W.S. Jacks operated by a hand pump on the first production Phantom III cars. The front jack will be on the chassis frame and not on the front suspension trianlge. The change from engine to hand pump necessitates a change in the pipe layout, and after consulatation with BY/Cgh{W Clough} it has been decided that the easiest way to make the change is to adopt the following procedure, namely to run the pipes to the pump fore and aft down the near side of the frame. This calls for the minimum of drawing. The pipes on the front cross member and all of the pipes in front of the centre line of the front engine bearer will be exactly as drawn on LeC 4860, but a looking glass copy. We have already sent you LeC 4799 showing the pipes from the Jackall pump running fore and aft, and the pipes will be similar to these for the D.W.S. hand pump, the scheme of which we have to send to you, together with a scheme showing the run of the pipes from the pump to the front engine foot, and from the pump back to the rear spring front fixing. The pipes along the gaiter and on the rear axle will be exactly as drawn on LeC 4820 and LeC 4831 except that they will be a looking -glass copy. The small amount of pipe for which we have to send you a scheme will follow almost immediately.
