For simplicity and to avoid a slight risk of weakness, we discontinued keying the tappets. It has always been found that to keep the valves really quiet it is necessary to have very fine adjustments in the clearance, and that EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} demonstrates that the tappets turn round and alter the clearance, hence our desire to go back to keying. E . has sent drawing of the way this must be done with present designs making no alterations to tappets. This will be carried out rather differently (which will avoid the slight previous weakness) for next 10,000 miles and 2 EX. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
