Altogether, however, Mr. Beaver was decidedly in favour of arranging the wires as we do at present, i.e. having them ferflex armoured and not carrying them in tubes. He said that it was highly desirable to have visibility in case of any faults occurring, stating that a fault on a cable in a metallic sheathing would declare itself very readily by the discolouration of the sheathing. We then questioned them about the subject of delivery and Mr. Stratton, who represents the Works, gave us an undertaking that he could manufacture cables we should require in 4 to 5 weeks from the date of receipt of instructions to their Works. We left it with them that the first move would be taken by us, the proceedure to be as follows :- We are to determine the minimum cross sectional areas of every individual conductor which we can use and to let them have this information as soon as possible. I will go into this matter myself with a view to specifying these conductors right away. We shall obtain a small reduction on some of the conductors. The conductors will be covered with pure and vulcanised india-rubber but of the minimum thickness which is to be determined by them. Each conductor Contd. | ||
