X7941 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. 27th September 1934. 28 - Ex. We have received your mono of the 25/9/34 with regard to my visit to Brussels, also the men returning to Derby. We have replied by telegram: TF{T. Fisher} 'BLE & Bg AT BOULOGNE " WE ARE WELDING SILENCER PARTS AND FITTING SAME STOP ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO BRUSSELS INVESTIGATE WEDNESDAY STOP ARE MENS WAGES BEING SENT OUT STOP WE REQUIRE THREE RETURN VOUCHERS HAVE WE TO WAIT FOR THESE. HANCOCK." The short notice of altered arrangements places us in a mess. The whole of the exhaust system was dismantled to fit the standard one with flexible mountings. We had scrapped the old one as we had to cut one intermediate pipe, to make up for one intermediate pipe being too short, no allowance having been made for the deletion of the sliding joint. We had got so far, that nothing would be saved by either fitting the old system of the new one. This will take the whole of the day to complete and most probably part of Friday. Then on our part, there was no time to stop wages being sent out. The altered arrangements of the car being left in France, leaves us without vouchers to return to Derby. The car will not be ready to leave here until Friday night or Saturday morning, and waiting for vouchers and wages will make it afternoon before we can get away. Saturday and Sunday to get to Brussels. That leaves Monday and part of Tuesday to investigate the trouble, if Mr. Wyns is there with the car. I take it, that whether we have the opportunity or not to investigate Mr. Wyn's trouble, 28 - EX has to be at Boulogne by Wednesday noon. I shall send two men - A.F.Martindale and H.Hamilton back Friday morning. G.W.H. | ||
