W/P. Sr. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1245 Rml/R.15.11.37. Re: Loss of Oil Pressure on your Trials Car. Since the fitting of A.C.2 main bearings on production, we have had a certain amount of trouble with bearings generally. Investigation has shown that this is due to the clearances used, and to the fact that we are now pre-loading these bearings, and the Works have had to learn how to do it. In several cases, cars have been delivered, and a subsequent drop in oil pressure has necessitated an examination which has shown that some of the bearings have seized and then freed themselves with consequent increase in clearance. We suggest that if your oil pressure is still low you should remove the bottom half and examine your main bearing caps. The bearings which usually give trouble are, the rear main bearing, which is tightened up on the thrust face, and the centre bearing. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} P.S. Since writing the above memo I have spoken to you on the telephone. We do not know the full story of this bearing material yet, and so have to ask you to carry on until further information is available. | ||
