LUCAS MELLOTONE HORNS.

Replying to your memo Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}3/KW.7.12.36. We are interested to hear that you are getting trouble with these horns, as we have never recommended them in view of the consistent amount of trouble we had at Derby, and as you know a Standardisation Sheet was circulated under protest.

It is true we have a pair of Experimental Horns under test, but we intend to give them very careful testing and running before recommending them for standardisation, as we definitely want to prove whether they are an advantage over the existing type before committing ourselves.

The horns we are testing are arranged for under-bonnet mounting as Messrs Lucas say that they cannot succeed in making these horns a success in the outside position, and it is interesting also to note that the general trend in America is also to mount horns of this type out of the way under the bonnet.

We are carrying out a test with a pair of the new type horns mounted under the bonnet and a pair of the standard Mellotone horns mounted outside in their usual position. We have arranged a changeover switch on the car so that we can, at will, judge the effect of each pair of horns both inside the car and outside.

We have already reported on the technical features of these horns as compared with the standard horn. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.
