Owing to perpetual rain sustained maximum speed was never used, the car being cruised at about 80 m.p.h. On the Bergamo autostrada the corrected speed either way was 94 m.p.h. In France 97 was attained. The petrol consumption for the whole trip was 17 m.p.g. and oil 1400 m.p.g. No water was required. 6 x 16 six-ply India Super tyres were used. They gave no trouble but were not non-skid on the 'routes glissantes'. Owing to rain on the Autostrada they kept cool but will have further running on German autobahns. Undoubtedly non-skid tyres in France are more important than silent ones. Almost every French car has its tyres "cut" or is equipped with tyres having knife cuts in the tread.
