X4295 R1/G18/10/21. x612 With reference to the second paragraph of the above memorandum, detonations have been more noticeable recently (probably for three months) on repaired cars. We have formed the opinion that this is caused by some difference in the quality of petrol during this period. Customers have informed us of distinct detonations after 1,000 miles running, which has affected the power of their cars on hills, and on examination the amount of carbon found is only what one would expect after 1,000 miles.
