A follower roller with ball bearings instead of roller bearings has been designed, detailed and instructed under BY/HEB.{H. Biraben}5/WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}28.12.38. It is most important that we have one of these produced experimentally and as soon as we know it is dimensionally alright I would suggest we order these for replacement on all cars prior to 'E' series. There are still a hundred cars in 'D' series to be made, and for these, if and when they are made, we should in my opinion order the ball bearing type of follower roller as stated above, and scrap any of the old roller design which may be made.
