Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 2nd. inst., with reference to dynamo noise.

Your criticism of our drive is not in the least unwelcome but we are afraid that a change of the nature suggested would involve us in such difficulties as to put it quite out of the question, or at any rate for some considerable time.

We are afraid the only thing we can do is to continue for the present with the belt drive and reduce the bearing noise to the greatest extent possible.

Regarding the fuse, on the Lucas switchboard as at present supplied to us, in the field circuit of the dynamo, we think that to improve the contact it might be better to use a tin lead fuse wire which would necessarily be of larger diameter than the present tin copper wire fuses supplied with the box. We should like to know what objection you have to this. Presumably you have an objection or you would have suggested this in the first instance. In the meanwhile we are endeavouring to obtain some 5 ampere tin lead fuse wire in order to experiment with this to see whether we think it should be better.

Contd.
