(3) The 6 drains run into a gallery pipe behind the exhaust manifold similar to LeC.4724.

(4) A union is brazed at the rear end of each gallery pipe and a coupling pipe with nuts and nipples to suit the unions on the galleries, runs behind the engine. It is necessary to have this pipe approximately at the level of the cutaway on the dash in order to be clear of the clutch pedal travel.

(5) Branching from A side gallery pipe is the drain pipe which runs down to the lower half and connects by nut and nipple to a flanged union. The latter is the same as used on the Bentley suction pipe and fastened by two bolts on to the vertical face of the lower half in close proximity to the oil drain tap, the fitting of this is identical to that carried out on the Bentley lower half.

It is necessary to remove the lower half to do this job, also to cut a piece out of the undershield to allow for the connection of the pipe.

The results obtained on 3-AZ-170 were as follows :-

(a) Chassis as received from customer 350 m.p.g.
(b) New inlet guides without grummets 750 m.p.g.
(c) As (b) but with the drain pipes 1160 m.p.g.
(d) New grummets were then fitted but owing to urgency of car no consumption figures were taken.
