OUR REFERENCE WHICH PLEASE QUOTE JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary}/EH. 20th May, 1936. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Experimental Department, DERBY. Dear Sirs, We have gone very carefully into the question raised in your letter of the 8th April in regard to Bentley Rear Road Springs, F.B.2171, as opposed to the Standard Production Spring, F.B.896, if the former are ordered in production quantities. The difference in the estimated cost of F.B.2171, on a production basis, amounts to 4/5d. per Spring, and such a reduction is only justified if these Special Four Leave Springs are ordered in such quantities as will justify the charge for the Upsetting Dies which would be required. We know you will appreciate why this is so. With regard to the point you raise in respect to Springs made to your drawing F 88751, which you are contemplating standardizing, we estimate the difference between Upset Solid Eyes as against Rolled Eyes, to be £1. 6. 3. each Spring, and, here again, this is based on quantity production as the cost of Upsetting Dies would be a fairly heavy figure. The difference of £1. 6. 3. is made up as follows:- Springs made with Upset Solid Eyes. Material Cost. .. £1. 6. 1. Springs made with Rolled Eyes. Material Cost. .. 1. 1. 5. A difference of ... 4. 8. | ||
