-6- Ovl/W13.11.29. carriers etc., should be omitted from all quotations etc., of the imported chassis. 15. Exhaust Cut Out. This is not required and is generally illegal in the U.S. We have not fitted one for 8 years and have had no inquiries. Should be omitted. 16. Governor. Present English Governor on later P.I and P.II works so well that we cannot reasonably say we have any serious objection to it. However, we do believe that it makes cold starting more difficult because of the tendency to open the throttle when the speed falls. We much prefer, and are sure that the American public prefers the direct control as on the 20 HP. The buying public definitely demands however, an idling setting for the throttle so that the hand lever can be brought to the bottom with confidence that the engine will run. We have a proposed scheme (not yet tried) for doing this by means of a cam on the carburetter body, which is moved out of the way when the starting carburetter is operated, allowing the throttle to close. 17. Accessories. Provision is desirable for the following:- 1. Oil Filter. 2. Air Cleaner. 3. Oil level gauge, visible on instrument board. (Preferably King-Seeley, same type as fuel gauge) We have had good success with several fitted experimentally. 4. American speedometer drive. Normal ratio 1008 turns per mile. 5. Fuel gauge graduated in U.S. gallons. 6. Stewart Warner Vacuum feed. 7. American horn - vibration type. Sparton "S.O.S. de Luxe" preferred. 8. American glass-tube fuses. 5/16" x 1-1/4". 9. A fused terminal on dash for attaching double electric windshield wiper. 18. Mudguard Irons. These should not be fitted, at least at first, until we have time to adapt irons of existing P.II type to exactly fit our standard mudguards. In the meantime we should make up folded and welded irons of our own in U.S. Contd:-- | ||
