For your information I have obtained from Mr. Brooks the operations necessary to successfully tin plate aluminium pistons:- Operation: (1) Dip in "Zonac" metal cleaner bath at 175°/180°F ("Zonac" can be obtained from Messrs. Cannings). (2) Wash in running cold water. (3) Dip in 20% solution of nitric acid approx. 2 seconds. (4) Dip in cold distilled water. (5) 5 minutes immersion in Sodium Stannate Bath at 175/180°F (very critical). The alkalinity of the bath should be controlled so that the free alkali does not exceed 1.2 ozs per gallon.
