R.R. 235a (500 T) (S.D. 408. 28-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. EH Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}: from EY. c. Mr Insull. c. FH. c. Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} X3456 CHASSIS - RADIATORS. RE ASSUMED PROBABLE CORROSION IN RADIATORS WHICH HAD STOOD WITHOUT WATER SINCE FEBRUARY. Referring to the above matter and the radiator which I instructed to be returned to Messrs, Marston Ltd., in order that they might take out every fifth tube in our presence, so that we might satisfy ourselves that the radiators which had stood in our stores since February without water were not corroded in a similar manner to the radiator Mr Hives succeeded in buckling three tubes of during the bumping test. An examination of the tubes taken from the radiator in question goes to show that there is no similar corrosion in the sample selected for inspection as described above. I am therefore satisfied that the mere standing of the radiator without water is not likely to be a cause of trouble, although for the future we are actually keeping radiators filled with water whilst they remain in the stores. There were some slight signs of the original presence of an acid, but these were merely surface marks and were readily removed by rubbing lightly with a cloth. There was, however, a number of tubes in the radiator which showed a "seam mark" from end to end, due possibly to some slight dirt present during the drawing operation. I am handing you herewith nine tubes showing this in a greater or lesser degree. One or two of these I would consider usable, but the majority of these are not, in my opinion, P.T.O. | ||
