re. SUB-FRAME FIXING. PHANTOM II. CHASSIS.

In inspecting and testing the first complete car of the Phantom II. type, insufficient clearance of the rear axle was noticed.

On examination it was found that one of the rear axle drum covers was catching on the body where it rests on the rear end of the sub-frame.

I ascertained that the body in this respect was made to our Coachbuilders clearances and seemed to be in order.

It appeared that under certain conditions of riding the rear drum would actually catch the top part of the sub-frame.

It seems that some instructions should be issued immediately to deal with this trouble, as alterations have to be made before cars are considered fit to be delivered to customers.

I also consider it necessary that some alteration be made to the sub-frame prior to delivery from the Works, and again bring forward the point that sub-frames should be checked on chassis before delivery, also chassis should be checked with some standard sub-frame before delivery, as referred to in my memo.EP{G.
