COPY. SECRET. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from CJ. EAC.II CJ4/E30/9/24. Will you please let us know what EAC.II chassis are in existence and what official of the Company holds the key of the bonnet in respect of each of these? It cannot be emphasised too strongly that the necessity for secrecy in connection with EAC.II is more urgent than ever. The rumours are persistent and we have to fight them most vigorously. We have to take orders for between 200 and 250 chassis of the present standard type before the EAC.II is placed on the market, except as regards a few chassis which some time early in next year may be offered as sports models. The date at which the announcement of even the sports models will be made must be regulated by the state of our order book for the remaining cars of the present standard type. In the interests of the business it is desirable that the date of the announcement of the sports models should be postponed as far as possible. Please see that a copy of this memo is sent to each of the holders of the bonnet keys in respect of every EAC.II chassis and give orders that no further EAC.II chassis (other than those referred to above) should leave the Experimental Shop without written authority from this office.
