Test report on the Wraith III engine gears for a No.6 unit experimental engine.

The above experimental engine has been run on the test bed for general development purposes, using a "fabroil" camwheel, in conjunction with "soft" gears, under the following conditions. Running time. Full throttle (varying speeds) 52 hrs. 25 mins. (not endurance) Part throttle ( " " ) 142 hrs. 20 mins. Total 194 hrs. 45 mins. When erected as a new engine, these gears were a good fit with no measureable back lash. After completing the above running time, the back-lash was found to be as follows : (a) Between the crank pinion and camwheel :- .002". (b) " " Dynamo. gear and camwheel :- .003". Brinell figure. = 366. (Drawing quotes :- 341-388). Gear Noise. Both before and after completing the above running, these gears are considered a good set.
