RE THE QUESTION OF THE USE OF ENAMEL WHICH IS UNAFFECTED BY OIL. ------------------------------------------------- I have been recommended to try some special enamel which is supposed to be quite oil-proof, manufactured by Macphersons, of Cornbrook, Manchester. I am sending you herewith a can of the above material which I would like you to try for oil-resisting purposes. The enamel in question is not a stoving enamel, it only being necessary to see that the article treated is quite dry, and then apply the enamel with a brush. The idea that I have in my mind in using this is that in spite of the care we are taking to try to thoroughly clean out gear boxes and Rear Axle Boxes, judging by the development of noisy bearings, we do not do so efficiently. An enamel of this kind would fasten down to the case any small grains of sand or chips and prevent them from being carried about in the oil and spoil the bearings and the gear teeth. BY.{R.W.
