DED2A 6093. DED S40 To By/RD. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}2/JH.24.8.38. EXPERIMENTAL BRONZE TYPE BRUSH GEAR. We noticed on the drawing DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1786.D.C. dealing with the new type of brush gear, that a note is added to the effect that the walls of the holders are to be flat, and all machine marks to be removed. Following this, we understand that the fitters method of removing the machine marks, is to use emery cloth over a file. We raise the point of removing the machine marks, as we feel that any attempt to improve these surfaces by hand, after machining, must destroy the dead flatness of them, especially as the fitters appear to construe the note to mean that the surfaces must be burnished. We consider that it is more important to have the surfaces flat than polished. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
