AERODROME DEFENCE GUN.

We attach a copy of QPL.147, which shows the 40 mm. gun mounted on a Morris CS.8. truck, complete with power mounting.

From general enquiries we have made amongst the Light Anti-aircraft battery commanders, there appears to be a feeling that such a unit would be ideal for Aerodrome Defence purposes.

They do not seem to be worried about firing off the tyres, but it may be necessary to lock the springs, by means of a quick-action jack.

We consider that if we offer them, as an initial project, the 40 mm. gun with the simple vertical feed now on test, rigged up as shown on QPL.147., we should get a lot of instructive criticism which would help us finalise the automatic feed for ground work, even though they might not accept the simple feed for quantity production.

The point arises however, that Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} has not had a copy of the scheme of this simple feed. If you will let him have a scheme he will be able to adjust the loader's seat so that he is in the best possible position to feed the rounds in from above, and we will incorporate this seat position on the first power driven mounting.

As soon as we are ready we can get the loan of an Army truck.

You have already, in QPL.156., had a more detailed scheme drawing of the mounting and seat, shown in this print.
