28th. October 1937.

For the attention of Mr.Sisman.

Dear Sirs,

We have now reached a stage when each of the 3 cars fitted with Halo 3L squeak regularly.

On our rig tests we found that Halo 3 squeaked the whole time, but Halo 5 was very much better. It therefore seems that we have given ourselves the least chance of success in making Halo 3L instead of Halo 5L.

We understand that you will sometime be making further samples for test, and under the circumstances we would prefer the linings to be based on 5L rather than 3L.

We are returning 4 pieces of Halo 3L which has been in service some time. You will see how the lead tears out of the surface, although these are not very good examples of it. These linings have developed the shiny surface that we are anxious to prevent.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
