To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [Crossed out text] X4270 ORIGINAL. 2 E2/G18/6/21. RE "GOSHAWK II" - "B" AND "D" TYPE DASHBOARDS. We send you herewith drawings Lec.1406/7 showing the above. These dashboards are made from material .080" thick stiffened by the bonnet rest round the edge, and by the attachment to the scuttle dash. Further, to prevent the sheet of metal diaphragming there are two angles running from top to bottom across the middle third of the surface, and anchored at their bottom ends on two "Z" shaped cross stiffeners. Where the steering column is anchored to the dashboard it is reinforced by a disc of aluminium. All pieces which are not required to be detachable are rivetted on with snap headed rivets. We have made an approximation of the area for the draught of air passing by the dash and this amount is roughly 200 square inches, while the area of the bores of the radiator tubes totalled up is 260 odd square inches. Would you kindly instruct. [STAMP: H&S JUN 21 1921] We would drawing attention to a slight alteration to the top bonnet hinge, which will necessitate slightly altering the top hinge, but will not interfere with making the halves of the hinge interchangeable, if the 40/50 [STAMP: RECEIVED] hinge be followed as regards the arrangement of the spacing. We have already mentioned in a previous drawing that the footboard or dashboard brackets were being modified - particulars of this modification will be sent shortly.
