[STAMP: XII I II III 25] D.A. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7005. BY.8/G.25.9.31. X7005, X7600. PHANTOM II - RE STANDARDISATION OF DIAMOND MOUNTING. ------------------------------ Now that we have received definite instructions from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} that the diamond mounting is to be incorporated, and further that this is based on 10,000 miles running in France on Phantom ll which has now been completed, the question of an adequate method of reinforcing or stiffening the side spare wheel carrier is of the utmost urgency. It is well understood that when the diamond mounting is introduced the sandwich foot to the rear end of the engine as a direct connection has disappeared. This leaves the spare wheel carrier over-hanging the frame with no cross support for the frame other than the dashboard, and we are certain that this condition is impracticable and will result in the frame itself being fractured unless some form of preventing the periodic vibration of the side spare wheel carrier is introduced at the same time as the diamond mounting scheme.
