Phantom III Road Springs. Although we are anxious to find a better spring than that produced by Salters, there is no alternative than to use Salters' springs for the first 50 chassis. Salters' springs have run 30,000 miles in France and several springs have run over 100 hours on the Bumper chassis. The only 2 Salters' springs which have failed ran 57 hours and 143 hours on the Bumper chassis. None has broken on the road. The bumper tests which are now in progress to try and find the relative merits of Salters, Firths and the English Steel Corporation springs, cannot alone justify a change from the Salters springs of which we have now had 14 months' road experience.
