Mr. Sidney and his son came in to see me today to have a talk about their New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Open Car, which they have now had in use some weeks.

When first the car was delivered, in spite of the fact that the Company's testers did not find any signs of overoiling, the Engine, when in the hands of its owner, consumed one gallon of oil in 250 miles run, with the obvious result that all plugs were sooted up. The Car was taken to N., where they carried out the Works instructions recently given in respect of drilling out the valve cones to let the oil drain away which collected by the rocker shaft. Mr. Sidney tells me that the improvement is considerable - he has run now 250 miles without this varying, but an examination of the plugs leads him to think that there is still too much oil about. I have told him not to worry, but to go on running say one thousand miles, when we will all know much more about whether the engine is likely to over oil or not, and then act accordingly. His engine had already the latest type of rings before it went to N.

You will like to know that Mr. Sidney is highly delighted in every way with his Car; he has no other criticism to offer except in respect of the Dynamo, vide PN{Mr Northey}35/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}9925 to MP. copy attached, and thinks that the difference in performance between the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I and the Silver Ghost is quite extraordinary.
