EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

-2- Expl. No. 9940 REF: He3/L.04.6.24.

The leverage we have got on the brakes is exactly the same as on the Cabriolet car when we made the tests at WW.

The most unsatisfactory feature in connection with the adopted scheme of brakes is the noise coming from the gears operating the servo. We get one noise from the spur gears which is the usual gear howl when heavy brake loads are applied. We do not consider this very serious because when the brakes are applied hard the tyres usually make a noise.

The most serious noise is the vibration and rattle which is worse at certain speeds. It is there badly-when a light pressure is on the servo, and disappears when heavy pressure is put on. It is there on all the cars fitted with the adopted scheme. We have complained of servo gear noise even with the 30 to 1 reduction but the noise has become worse as we have increased the speed of the servo. We treat this as one of the worst problems we have to overcome before cars can be delivered to customers.

For the servo liner material we are fitting the cars with 'Halo' material. We find that this material does give us a smoother pick up.

As regards the steering we have been troubled with heavy steering. The only reason we can find for this is the increased friction on the pivot pin bearings. We cannot possibly run with two plain friction washers in the pivots. On one car going to France we have one plain washer, the other one will have two ball thrusts and carry a plain washer as spare.
